Dhadakpur is getting its next crime — and its next wave of chaos. Amazon Prime Video officially confirmed Dupahiya Season 2 at the Prime Video Presents India event on March 19, 2026. The full ensemble returns for the second season, with Gajraj Rao, Renuka Shahane, Sparsh Shrivastava, Shivani Raghuvanshi, and Bhuvan Arora all reprising their roles. Bhojpuri cinema superstar Dinesh Lal Yadav (Nirahua) joins the cast as a notable new addition. Sonam Nair returns as director, with Avinash Dwivedi and Chirag Garg continuing as writers. The series is produced by Bombay Film Cartel under creators Salona Bains Joshi and Shubh Shivdasani.
What Is Dupahiya Season 2 About?
The official Prime Video description for Season 2 keeps the tone of the show intact while raising the stakes: Dupahiya returns with its signature blend of madcap humour and heartwarming characters — but this time, another crime brews in Dhadakpur.
Season 1 centred on a single, seemingly simple crime — the theft of a motorbike gifted for a wedding — which unravelled into a cascade of complications involving love, family pride, and the honour of an entire village. The Season 2 setup suggests that Dhadakpur’s twenty-five-year streak of being crime-free, already broken once, is no longer a defining identity of the town. A new crime is brewing, and given the show’s sensibility, the fallout will be anything but straightforward for Banwari Jha and his community.

Creators Avinash Dwivedi and Chirag Garg built the first season around the kind of small-town logic where a stolen two-wheeler becomes a matter of existential importance. Season 2 is expected to follow the same formula — ordinary people, extraordinary commitment to resolving something that spirals well beyond what it should, all wrapped in the specific warmth and absurdity of Dhadakpur’s world.
When Is Dupahiya Season 2 Releasing on Prime Video?
An official premiere date for Dupahiya Season 2 has not been announced. The second season was confirmed at Prime Video’s India slate event on March 19, 2026. Season 1 premiered on March 7, 2025, and ran for nine episodes, so a similar format and a 2026 release window is expected. Prime Video will announce a specific date as production progresses.

What Happened in Dupahiya Season 1?
Season 1, directed by Sonam Nair and written by Avinash Dwivedi and Chirag Garg, premiered on March 7, 2025. Set in Dhadakpur — a fictional village in Bihar so proud of its peace that locals call it the “Belgium of Bihar” — the series opened on the eve of a major event: Dhadakpur is preparing to celebrate 25 years of being crime-free. Into this picture comes a wedding, a brand new motorbike purchased as the centrepiece gift, and — seven days before the ceremony — a theft.

Banwari Jha (Gajraj Rao), the school teacher and father of the bride, has his family’s pride and his daughter Roshini’s wedding on the line. Roshini (Shivani Raghuvanshi) has agreed to marry Kuber, a man who works in Mumbai, largely because it offers her an escape from village life. When the dupahiya — the two-wheeler — disappears, the search for it drags in the entire community, including Roshini’s ex-lover, and turns Dhadakpur’s cherished peace upside down. The nine-episode first season played the comedy of small-town pride, family dynamics, and the absurdity of high-stakes low-stakes situations with considerable warmth.
The series holds a 7.4 rating on IMDb. Critics frequently compared it to Panchayat, with The Hollywood Reporter India calling it a show with a “Panchayat hangover” — a backhanded compliment that reflects both the show’s quality and the near-impossible standard it was being held to. Audience response on Prime Video was enthusiastic enough that Prime Video announced Season 2 in development relatively quickly after Season 1’s March 2025 launch.
