One Battle After Another OTT India: Oscars 2026 Best Picture Winner Streaming on JioHotstar — When and Where to Watch

Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another just made history at the 98th Academy Awards — winning Best Picture, Best Director, and four additional Oscars on one of the most competitive nights in recent memory. If you have been waiting for the right moment to watch Leonardo DiCaprio’s most acclaimed performance in years, that moment is now. The film has been streaming on JioHotstar India since February 26, 2026.

What Is One Battle After Another About?

On the surface, One Battle After Another is a propulsive black comedy action-thriller about a group of ex-revolutionaries forced back into the fight after years of quiet civilian life. But in the hands of Paul Thomas Anderson — the director behind There Will Be Blood, Boogie Nights, and The Master — nothing is ever simply what it appears to be on the surface.

The story centres on Bob, a paranoid, past-his-prime former revolutionary who has spent the last sixteen years raising his fiercely independent daughter Willa. Her mother Perfidia walked out on them both when Willa was an infant, and Bob has tried his best to build something resembling a normal life ever since. That fragile peace shatters when Colonel Steven J. Lockjaw — Bob’s most dangerous enemy from his revolutionary past — resurfaces with a singular purpose: going after Willa.

What follows is a reunion of the original crew of ex-revolutionaries, now scattered, older, and considerably rustier than they once were, coming together to protect one of their own. The film opens with a breathless half-hour action prologue before settling into its deeper, stranger, funnier story about middle age, parenthood, loyalty, and what it means to keep fighting when the fight itself has long since changed.

Anderson has described the film as a loose spiritual adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel Vineland — a book he had been wanting to bring to screen since the early 2000s — combined with original material he developed over many years. The father-daughter dynamic at the film’s heart draws heavily from Pynchon, while much of the surrounding chaos is Anderson’s own invention.

Cast — Leonardo DiCaprio Leads a Stacked Ensemble

Leonardo DiCaprio plays Bob with a physical comedy and emotional depth that critics described as unlike anything he has done before — a man who is simultaneously ridiculous and genuinely heartbreaking. The performance anchors a film that could easily tip into chaos, keeping it grounded in something real.

Sean Penn plays Colonel Steven J. Lockjaw, the villain of the piece — a corrupt military officer with a long memory and an obsessive streak. Benicio del Toro brings his singular screen presence to Sensei Sergio St. Carlos, one of the returning ex-revolutionaries. Teyana Taylor plays Perfidia, the absent mother whose return adds another layer of complication to an already overloaded situation. And Chase Infiniti, in her film debut, plays Willa — the daughter at the centre of everything — in a performance that drew nearly as much attention as DiCaprio’s.

Why Critics and Awards Bodies Could Not Ignore It

One Battle After Another arrived at the Venice Film Festival in September 2025 and immediately set the awards conversation ablaze. It went on to win six BAFTAs including Best Film and Best Direction before arriving at the Oscars with 13 nominations — the second-highest tally of the night behind Sinners.

On Oscar night, the film converted six of those nominations into wins: Best Picture, Best Director for Anderson, and four additional awards. The scale of its victory at a ceremony where Ryan Coogler’s record-breaking Sinners was considered equally strong made the night genuinely unpredictable until the final envelope was opened.

The film was also shot in VistaVision — a wide-format film process that had not been used on a major production since the 1960s. Anderson and his cinematographer pushed to revive the format specifically for this film, and the visual result is apparent in every frame.
